From 27th to 30th August 2008 the 7th edition of the Tanzmesse took place in Düsseldorf, Germany. Thanks to the success in 2008, the
internationale tanzmesse nrw is clearly a leading global marketplace, festival, and forum for contemporary dance!
The internationale tanzmesse nrw welcomed approximately 1000 dance companies, choreographers, programmers and journalists from around the world who gathered to experience dance performances, to connect with colleagues, to co-operate and network on new dance projects.
During the four Tanzmesse days, 6,000 tickets were sold to 56 events, including Performances, Open Studios and site-specific dance events by choreographers from 21 different countries. Additionally up to 300 international dance companies and organizations presented their work at 98 booths in the marketplace in the NRW-Forum Kultur und Wirtschaft in Düsseldorf.
Dancers, choreographers, programmers and journalists connected with colleagues, developed new ideas and discussed new co-productions.
Today the internationale tanzmesse nrw is not only an important destination for contemporary dance globally, it plays a significant role in developing a vivid market for dance and, simultaneously, networking professionals who are envisioning the future of dance.
The next internationale tanzmesse nrw will take place in Düsseldorf from 25th to 28th August 2010! |

The Exhibitors
Tanzmesse exhibitors in 2008 came from around the world.
38% came from Germany
47% came from other European countries
15% came from overseas.
The exhibition halls were full and not every request for a booth could be met. Still, the atmosphere was relaxed and co-operative and gave room for intense and vivid conversation between dance professionals.
It is this collegial atmosphere that differentiates the tanzmesse from other marketplaces. |

More than 80% of all exhibitors in 2008 had artistic backgrounds: 65% dance companies, 5% were represented by artist agencies and 10% by national or regional delegations. The national or regional delegations present a selected scope of choreographers and companies from their region or country. The remaining 20% of all exhibitors came from the service area: cultural organizations, ballet- and stage equipment, institutes of education.
The exhibition halls offer the perfect environment conducive to gaining new information and insights as well as professional networking. |
